Media Chowder

The best damned excuse for Boston journalists to go out drinking, period.

Media Chowder’s 3rd Annual ‘Drink for the Tots’ Holiday Party!

November 25th, 2011 by mkelly

Holy crow, it’s finally here– Media Chowder’s now-legendary holiday party, the Drink for the Tots fund-raiser!!

Mingle with hundreds of other media & PR professionals throughout Boston, share some drinks and good times, and drop off a toy for needy children who live in God-forsaken places like Brockton or Chelsea. Anyone who arrives with one toy (must still be in its original packaging) receives one free drink ticket. Anyone who thinks this is a joke, please see the lead story in the Globe for Nov. 25, which basically says even in Boston things are pretty sucky and we need to help. Toys will go to the Salvation Army, who presumably know what to do with these things.

As always, Media Chowder is free and open to anyone in the writing, reporting, editing, PR or communications fields. Show up! Bring a friend!

At Sidney’s Bar & Grille in Cambridge, 20 Sidney St., as always. Details on Facebook.

Nov. 17: Media Chowder’s Booze & Foods Drive

November 7th, 2011 by mkelly

Yes folks, it’s that time of year again– a time to help the less fortunate while getting intoxicated. Our 3rd annual Booze & Foods Drive will take place on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 6:30 to 9 pm at Sidney’s Bar & Grille in Cambridge as usual.

The concept is simple: for every item of canned food you bring for donation to the Cambridge Food Bank, you get one free drink. You also get to network with various other Boston-area writers, reporters, editors & other folks in the communication fields, and perhaps can drum up some business for yourself.

As always, free and open to all in the writing, reporting, editing, PR, broadcasting & other communications fields. Show up! Attend or die!

Leaf-blowin’ Cocktail Party: Oct. 20 in Cambridge!

October 5th, 2011 by mkelly

That’s right, folks– time to throw on your earth tones and get your asses to Sydney’s, for Media Chowder’s next monthly cocktail party! And special event live at 8 pm! You know those booths in Vegas where people stand in ‘em and they try to catch money blowing around? We’ll have one! Except it’ll be filled with leaves, not money.

Standard restrictions apply: our party is free and open to anyone in the reporting, editing, writing, PR or other communications fields. Show up for the first time and you get one free drink ticket!

Upcoming Cocktail Parties: Aug. 11, Sept. 22

June 28th, 2011 by mkelly

People of Earth–

Media Chowder leadership held a summit meeting earlier this week, and in the interests of drying out from our over-the-top party in June, we have combined our July and August parties into one: Thursday, Aug. 11. As always, the bash is at Sidney’s Bar & Grille just outside Central Square, Cambridge. Party starts at 6:30, runs until 9, and is free to all– anyone in the reporting, writing, editing, PR or other communications fields is welcome, even the gainfully employed! A great opportunity to meet new people, make professional connections, and bitch about your job.

Also, in the Planning Ahead Department, we have scheduled the date for our September party to be Thursday, Sept. 22– and otherwise all the same details as above for where, when, who’s invited, and so forth.

We do have some photos and video from the June Mid-Summer Bash, and they will be posted here in due course. Our web development group is also planning to launch a job board this fall, and more bells and whistles to come in the future. Thanks!

Next meeting: June 23

Yep, it’s that time of the year– time for bad mojitos, clammy skin and sweat-stains under the shirt, at Media Chowder’s mid-summer cocktail party!

As always, Sidney’s Bar & Grille just outside Central Square, Cambridge. Party starts at 6:30, runs until 9, and is free to all– anyone in the reporting, writing, editing, PR or other communications fields is welcome, even the gainfully employed!

A note about last month’s party– our ‘Drink for Tornado Victims’ fund-raiser led to a donation of $150 to the Red Cross. We’re thankful to all who sacrificed a few liver cells to help the less fortunate!

Hope to see you there,

-Chairman Matt
